Report: More Details Emerge About Eric Bischoff Leaving WWE SmackDown Role

Let go after just four months...

Earlier this week WWE announced that Eric Bischoff had been replaced in the role of Executive Director of Friday Night SmackDown by Bruce Prichard.

Yesterday, Bryan Alvarez, speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, reported that the reasoning behind the change may have been down to the way Bischoff conducted himself backstage.

Today, via Sports Illustrated, more details have emerged detailing exactly why Eric was let go.

SI have had it confirmed to them by a number of sources that the decision to let Bischoff go was made by WWE on Monday night. Eric was informed of the decision by the company's Human Resources department on Tuesday morning following a creative meeting.

"Bischoff was never given creative authority on SmackDown. He was originally intended to oversee creative, but multiple sources confirmed that his directive was largely to observe. Bischoff’s four-month run working for Vince McMahon will be marked by his failure to assimilate into the corporate structure of the company, though his dismissal is not a complete loss for WWE," the report continues.

Because Bischoff is an "at-will employee of WWE," he isn't required to adhere to the 90-day no-compete clause and can sign with any other wrestling company immediately.

Eric relocated to Stamford, Connecticut for his four-month stint in the role, with SI stating that he is expected to return to Wyoming.
