Title Match Announced For WWE Friday Night SmackDown

SmackDown heads to Indianapolis...

The third episode of WWE SmackDown on FOX emanates from Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, and this time the show won't be equipped with a "premiere" or Draft gimmick. But like the first two episodes, a notable title bout has been scheduled.

WWE Intercontinental champion Shinsuke Nakamura will defend the belt against Roman Reigns, following a little Twitter back and forth between Reigns and Nakamura's accomplice, Sami Zayn.

Zayn fired the first salvo when he openly celebrated he and Nakamura making it onto SmackDown as a joint third-round pick, while decrying SmackDown using a first-rounder on Reigns. Reigns' response was the typical "bring it on, and bring the belt" rejoinder.

The past two episodes of SmackDown have seen championships change hands in the main event. Brock Lesnar infamously flattened WWE champion Kofi Kingston in seven seconds on the FOX premiere, while new-attitude Bayley defeated SmackDown Women's champion Charlotte Flair last week.

Reigns previously held the Intercontinental title on one occasion, defeating The Miz for the belt in November 2017, before losing it back to him nine weeks later.
