The last two weeks have seen the relationship between Riddle and Randy Orton drastically change.
After a backstage exchange last week, Riddle would shock Orton in a one-on-one match, with the two teaming up to defeat Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin in tag-team action on Monday.
Fightful Select is reporting that the developing storyline between Orton and Riddle is a result of some significant changes to the creative plans for WWE Monday Night Raw over the last couple of weeks, which seems to have stemmed from a late creative meeting last week.
Orton was originally billed to be entering a rivalry with Braun Strowman, with a match between the two set for last week's Raw. That match, while advertised heavily throughout the weekend, was pulled from the show late in the day. Orton vs. Riddle was then set during the progression of Raw.
Riddle, meanwhile, was pencilled in to continue his feud with Sheamus over the United States Championship, after the Celtic Warrior defeated him for the Title at WrestleMania 37.
The report goes on to say that, when the change to his next storyline was pitched to Orton, the 14-time WWE Champion was in favour of working with Riddle, cementing the late switch in plans.
