When ROH went into self-imposed hiatus at the end of 2021, there were several talents that most people expected AEW to snap up - such as Brody King and Danhausen - with The Briscoes arguably at the top of the list.

However, despite conjuring up an angle with AEW’s FTR, and reportedly being seen backstage at some AEW tapings, a report from Fightful Select has indicated why AEW haven’t picked up The Briscoes' contracts.

Even before Tony Khan purchased Ring of Honor, it is reported that The Briscoes were unlikely to be picked up by AEW, due to ‘a person of influence’ at WarnerMedia not wanting ‘Dem Boys’ signed to AEW, specifically due to Jay Briscoe's homophobic tweets from 2013.

Briscoe publicly apologised after the tweets in question, with some in ROH telling Fightful that The Briscoes haven’t caused any issues since then, to their credit. Additionally, an unnamed AEW talent said Mark and Jay were ‘made for television’ but they couldn’t blame WarnerMedia or AEW for not pursuing the brothers.

As of writing, there is no word on The Briscoes future in ROH since Tony Khan purchased the company, with the reigning ROH World Tag Team Champions originally slated to defend the gold at the upcoming Supercard of Honor XV show on April 1 against unnamed opponents, but this match is up in the air.
