Rey Fenix was removed from the All Elite Wrestling online roster page today and he is officially gone from the promotion.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has reported that Fenix is believed to have been released by AEW and he will be joining WWE. This comes after talks between AEW and Rey Fenix over his release for the past few weeks.
"Rey Fenix was removed from the AEW web site. The belief is he was released from the rest of his contract similar to Starks & Black and will be in WWE ASAP. We had known there were talks in that direction for a few weeks. AEW hasn't confirmed the second part but the removal pretty much says that," Meltzer tweeted.
WrestleVotes also noted that the expectation backstage within WWE is Fenix signs with the company sooner rather than later. People within WWE also reportedly wouldn't be surprised if Fenix is featured at WrestleMania 41. It was reported last week that WWE were making plans for Fenix.
PWInsider and Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful have also reported that Rey Fenix has departed All Elite Wrestling.
Fenix has been a part of AEW since 2019 but relations soured in the Summer of 2024 after the promotion reportedly discovered that Fenix and his brother Penta (FKA Pentagon Jr & Penta El Zero Miedo) had held talks with WWE while signed to AEW. This resulted in injury time being added to both of their contracts, with Penta exiting AEW in December 2024 and debuting on WWE Raw on January 13, 2025.
Fenix, meanwhile, had almost a year of injury time added to his deal which would have kept him under contract until well into 2025. After this, Fenix publicly expressed his unhappiness with AEW, alleging "inhumane treatment" and later tweeting a photo of himself in a straitjacket.
Fenix is the latest talent not being used by All Elite Wrestling to be released in recent weeks following Ricky Starks and Miro. Malakai Black also exited AEW earlier this year when his contract expired.
