Report: Saraya Not Medically Cleared To Compete Despite AEW Debut

Saraya debuted for AEW at Dynamite Grand Slam 2022

Saraya made her surprise AEW debut on the September 21 edition of Dynamite, confronting Britt Baker and others at Grand Slam in New York’s Arthur Ashe Stadium.

However, despite it seeming like Saraya and Baker were setting up a wrestling angle between the two, a report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggests the former WWE Divas Champion has not been medically cleared to compete.

Meltzer also noted that whilst Saraya has not been cleared she is hopeful that she will be, and will be allowed to compete after an in-ring absence of almost five years. It was notable that Saraya did not get physical at all during her debut.

Some wrestling fans believed Saraya was indeed brought in to AEW as an active competitor, due to Saraya having an entry on the official AEW roster page - complete with in-ring record. However, seeing as the likes of William Regal and Mark Henry also have similar profiles despite both being firmly retired from in-ring competition, it seems as though all on-screen non-broadcast/backstage talent are included on the roster page.

It is yet unknown what role Saraya will play in AEW, but for the time being at least, it doesn’t appear like it’ll be a physical one.
