There has been a lot of talk this week regarding the main event of WrestleMania 39 Night One, with Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship being slated as the most likely closing match for the show.
A report from Fightful Select details more information about the state of the main event for Night One of WrestleMania. The report indicates that people may be pushing for a different closing bout;
“We can confirm that as of one point, The Usos vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn was slated to be the main event of the show, and there have been several in the company pushing for it to be.”
There are certainly arguments to be made for both matches being the main event, with the report by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter indicating that political reasons were at play for Ripley vs. Charlotte potentially taking the main event slot this year, with a big part of that being due to the fact that plans were changed last year for “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s return to the ring, which took the main event position from Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey. It still hasn’t been confirmed which match will close out Night One.
