Protests have erupted in at least 140 cities across the United States after George Floyd died in police custody on May 25. Floyd's death has raised questions about police violence and racism throughout the world, and the protests even entered the professional wrestling world as WWE introduced new diversity measures and Triple H told all NXT talent they can discuss Black Lives Matter with him.

Sean Ross Sapp at Fightful also reported WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels had a heated discussion with an unnamed NXT producer ahead of NXT TakeOver: In Your House. Sapp noted The Heartbreak Kid discussed racism and inequality with the producer, and Michaels was not happy when the colleague said everyone is already treated equally in the United States. The Showstopper then proceeded to talk about systematic racism and inequality in "a very heated discussion."

After the incident, Michaels remained professional and worked with the producer to help put TakeOver together. Numerous wrestlers also found out about the argument on Sunday, and one employee in the company told Fightful it was more of a discussion between Michaels and the producer than an argument.
