Even WWE seemed to recognise the bizarreness of Sol Ruca's booking ahead of Clash in Italy.
According to Fightful Select, there was some internal discussion about Sol Ruca being in a title match at the May 31 pay-per-view despite the fact she hadn't won a match via pinfall on the main roster since being called up in the aftermath of WrestleMania 42. Despite the discussion, WWE decided to book Sol Ruca in a title match at Clash in Italy anyway.
Sol Ruca challenged Becky Lynch for the WWE Women's Intercontinental Championship in the semi-main event of Clash in Italy, and Ruca ended up winning the contest in a match dominated by Lynch's continued issues with referee Jessika Carr. This ultimately meant Ruca won a championship with her first pinfall win since being moved to the main roster on a full-time basis.
Sol Ruca headed to Monday Night Raw from NXT on the Raw after WrestleMania 42 and her run began with a loss to Women's World Champion Liv Morgan. Ruca then lost to IYO SKY on May 11, but the former NXT Women's North American Champion received a non-title match with Becky Lynch at the May 23 edition of Saturday Night's Main Event, with that match ending in two minutes with a DQ win for Ruca, which led to the Clash in Italy contest.
