Jacob Fatu's status for WWE Clash in Italy was up in the air just days before the pay-per-view after Fatu sustained an injury during his Street Fight with Solo Sikoa at a WWE house show from Liverpool, England on Thursday, May 28.

Fatu was ultimately able to wrestle at Clash in Italy but WWE mulled over alternative plans for the pay-per-view main event in case Fatu wasn't able to compete at the show. One of those backup plans, according to False Finish, would have seen Drew McIntyre challenge Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Drew McIntyre has been off WWE TV since he lost an Unsanctioned Match to Jacob Fatu at WrestleMania 42. The three-time WWE Champion has been gone from the company's programming due to filming the remainder of his scenes for the upcoming reboot of Highlander, with McIntyre appearing in the movie as Angus MacLeod, the brother of protagonist Connor MacLeod, portrayed by Henry Cavill. PWInsider reported on May 29 that McIntyre had finished his filming commitments on Highlander.

McIntyre had been advertised for SmackDown in recent weeks but he ultimately hasn't returned to WWE TV as of yet. When exactly McIntyre will return is unknown and he is not scheduled to be a part of the King of the Ring tournament that will run until Night of Champions.

Jacob Fatu was defeated by Roman Reigns in their Tribal Combat Match for the World Heavyweight Title at Clash in Italy, with Reigns winning without any interference from The Usos. Fatu walked to the back with Reigns and The Usos after the match, signalling he has become a reluctant member of The Bloodline.
