Stephanie McMahon's resignation from WWE has not been received well by wrestlers from multiple companies.
Taking to Twitter, Jon Alba reported that talent from across multiple promotions expressed dismay at McMahon's announcement.
"I've had several wrestlers in the last 10 minutes across multiple companies reach out, expressing dismay at the Stephanie McMahon resignation news. General consensus from them is it's bad news for the workers. #WWE," Alba tweeted.
Fightful Select also noted that several WWE talents have messaged them, very confused about the situation, with the general consensus being one of uncertainty. One wrestler also stated that Vince McMahon taking over WWE creative would lead to public frustration amongst the roster. McMahon has not returned to WWE creative as of the time of writing.
Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer added on Twitter: "Also can't say this has been great for morale today. A lot of people really liked Steph."
Stephanie McMahon resigned from all of her roles in WWE on January 10, with the company confirming in the same press release that Vince McMahon has been elected unanimously by the WWE Board of Directors as Executive Chairman of the Board. The major shakeup within WWE comes only days after Vince returned to WWE, electing himself, Michelle Wilson, and George Barrios to the Board of Directors. The 77-year-old's return caused three directors to be removed from the Board, while two others resigned.
WWE are now pursuing a sale of the company and JPMorgan have reportedly been hired to advise on any potential sale, with the hope being that any deal will be completed within the next six months. Vince McMahon holds final approval of any sale after changing the company's bylaws last week.
With Stephanie's resignation, it has been confirmed that Nick Khan will serve as CEO. Triple H remains WWE Chief Content Officer.
Stephanie McMahon became WWE Co-CEO and Chairwoman upon Vince McMahon's resignation in July of 2022 amidst a sexual misconduct and hush money scandal. The 77-year-old allegedly paid millions of dollars to women between 2006 and 2022 to "suppress allegations of sexual misconduct and infidelity."
