GUNTHER has been on one hell of a reign as the WWE Intercontinental Champion, with his time with the gold now surpassing 359 days as of this writing, with there being no signs of that stopping any time soon. Fans have been keeping a keen eye on his tally, which is now less than 100 days away from all-time record reign of the Honky Tonk Man at 454 days, which has been the long-standing record for nearly four decades.

According to a report from WRKD Wrestling on twitter, a new record may be in the offing.

“Roman Reigns isn’t the only superstar inching closer to history.

We’ve learned that there are internal talks for Gunther to pass Honky Tonk Man’s all time historic Intercontinental championship reign.

He’d officially break the record on September 6th.”

Whilst fans have suspected that GUNTHER is set to break the record, especially after such a strong push over the last year which saw him become the person to spend the most time in a 30-person Royal Rumble match ever, this is the first time it has been rumoured that WWE themselves have discussed the record being broken.
