Report: The Elite, Cody Rhodes Are AEW EVPs "In Name Only"

Diminished power

All Elite Wrestling's Executive Vice Presidents Cody Rhodes, Nick Jackson, Matt Jackson and Kenny Omega are now EVPs "in name only", according to a new report.

When AEW was founded by the EVPs alongside Tony Khan, the likes of The Young Bucks were given creative control and carte blanche to hire who they wanted.

That is no longer the case, though, according to Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam.net. A source told Haynes that "basically they are EVPs in name only in 2021. They no longer have final say in creative or talent hiring. Any of them. TK pulled back on the reigns and took that power away from all."

AEW's creative now solely rests in the hands of President Tony Khan and while talent are encouraged to pitch ideas, "creative is absolutely Tony Khan's prerogative now."

Haynes also noted that Cody Rhodes would regularly attend office meetings but his role and creative input have "greatly diminished."

Having lost their creative control and hiring power, The Elite remain involved behind the scenes in other capacities. Matt Jackson assists his wife Dana with merchandise, while Nick Jackson remains focused on Being The Elite. Kenny Omega is also still heavily involved with AEW Games and the women's division.

There were also rumours earlier this year of infighting amongst the EVPs which noted that Rhodes, Omega and The Young Bucks were no longer on speaking terms. Cody Rhodes denied those rumours at the time, believing they started because of AEW's success.

In an update, though, a source told Haynes: "Cody doesn't really have much of a relationship with any of the EVPs. anymore. The others are still great friends, but Cody is very much on the outside looking in."
