Report: Update On AEW Rankings

What is going on with the AEW rankings?

While All Elite Wrestling's rankings were previously a prominent part of the promotion, often being used to determine title matches, they haven't been featured on TV in recent weeks.

The rankings haven't actually been updated since August 31 on AEW's website and talent no longer have their ranking listed during their entrances.

It appears the rankings won't be going away completely, however, and Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that AEW simply decided to de-emphasise them.

"They're not dead but they have been toned down. They're not dead. There was a decision not to emphasise them as much on television but they can always go back to doing so," Meltzer said.

Why AEW have opted to de-emphasise the rankings is unknown. The system had come under scrutiny in recent months, though, especially since FTR were highly-ranked in the tag team division but did not receive a shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championships. Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler were instead recently feuding with Jay Lethal, Satnam Singh, and Sonjay Dutt.
