Report: Update On Santana's AEW Status

Update on Santana’s AEW status

It’s been nearly 10 months since Santana last wrestled in an All Elite Wrestling ring, with the former Inner Circle member suffering an ACL injury during the Blood & Guts II match on the June 29 2022 edition of Dynamite.

Prior to the injury, Santana’s status in AEW was up in the air, with the former IMPACT World Tag Team Champion reported to have fallen out with tag partner Ortiz whilst rumours and speculation suggested he was eyeing up an AEW exit ahead of his contract reportedly expiring in September 2022.

Since then, little has been heard of the former Proud & Powerful star, but a report from Fightful Select states that Santana is still employed by AEW, and has been paid throughout his stay on the sidelines.

If Santana’s deal were to have expired last September - which was never confirmed - then AEW could have been in a position to exercise an extension due to time missed through injury. Fightful’s report noted that Tony Khan is apparently adamant that injured talent will be paid whilst on the shelf.
