Report: Update On Why Adam Cole Missed AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

Tony Khan has spoken further about Adam Cole's absence from AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

Adam Cole was scheduled to be in action at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view on Sunday, June 25 but AEW CEO Tony Khan announced just before the show that Cole had not been cleared to compete due to illness and his match with "Filthy" Tom Lawlor had been scrapped.

Tony Khan has since addressed Cole's status and the AEW President revealed that Cole had a fever when he arrived at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto and he was sent home to prevent anybody else from becoming sick. Khan believes that Cole has the flu. His status for this week's AEW Dynamite is unknown.

While it would not have prevented him from facing Tom Lawlor, Fightful Select reported that Cole was banged up following his match with MJF on the June 14 episode of AEW Dynamite. The two men faced off in an AEW World Title Eliminator that ended in a 30-minute draw. The programme between Cole and MJF is scheduled to continue and they are set to team together in the Blind Eliminator Tournament.

Fightful Select also noted that AEW considered booking Tom Lawlor in a last-minute match on Forbidden Door. The former NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion instead defeated Serpentico in a dark match before Forbidden Door.
