Ever since rumours that his wife Chelsea Green was heading back to WWE emerged, speculation has swirled about Matt Cardona's long-term future.

In an update, WWE sources told Fightful Select that Cardona is not currently signed with the company but "we shouldn't rule anything out for the future." The 37-year-old is currently a top star in IMPACT Wrestling, the National Wrestling Alliance and on the independents.

Cardona is set to team with Major Players tag team partner Brian Myers at Hard to Kill on January 13 as they challenge for the IMPACT World Tag Team Championships. The Deathmatch King will also look to regain the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title from Tyrus at Nuff Said on February 11.

Cardona previously spent 15 years in WWE from 2005 until his release in April 2020. The former Intercontinental Champion has made it known since his release that he still aims to become WWE Champion one day and that he would be lying if he said he didn't want to wrestle at Madison Square Garden and WrestleMania at least one more time.
