The reason for Make-A-Wish spending $2,500 on WrestleMania 42 tickets has been revealed.
WWE President Nick Khan spoke at a US Senate committee hearing about the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act, during which he used Make-A-Wish purchasing WrestleMania 42 tickets to criticise the World Boxing Council spending $265,000 on tickets for the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight in September 2025.
"The last thing on Canelo-Crawford, so WrestleMania this past weekend, which Senator Rosen mentioned, Make-A-Wish, WWE does a lot of work with Make-A-Wish. John Cena in particular has made more wishes happen than any other human in the existence of Make-A-Wish. Make-A-Wish, a non-profit organisation, they bought $2,500 of tickets. The WBC for Canelo-Crawford, they hold themselves out as a non-profit, they purchased $265,000 of tickets for that event and insisted upon a suite for the president of their company," Nick Khan stated.
There was quickly criticism aimed at WWE on social media over a charity that grants wishes for seriously ill children paying for WrestleMania 42 tickets.
Dave Meltzer has reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Make-A-Wish was given an allocation of comp tickets for WWE WrestleMania 42, which took place at Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19. Make-A-Wish had people above the number of comp tickets that was agreed upon, though, which resulted in the organisation spending $2,500 on tickets. Why WWE didn't grant more comp tickets to Make-A-Wish for WrestleMania 42 when the two-night event was not sold out is unknown.
WWE and Make-A-Wish have worked together for over 40 years, with WWE stating that WWE wrestlers have granted over 6,000 wishes. John Cena has granted the most wishes out of anyone with over 650.
