Report: WWE 24/7 Champion Rob Gronkowski Returning To NFL

Is Gronk Tampa Bay Buccaneers bound?

UPDATE

The NFL have now confirmed the deal: "New England agreed to send TE Rob Gronkowski and a seventh round pick (in the upcoming draft) in exchange for a fourth round pick - Ian Rappaport"

Original Story

Despite winning the WWE 24/7 Championship at WrestleMania 36, Rob Gronkowski is reportedly set for a sensational return to the NFL.

ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter is reporting that discussions are underway for Gronk to be traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to play alongside Tom Brady, who has also joined the team.

Schefter tweeted: "Patriots and Buccaneers have been discussing a trade for retired TE Rob Gronkowski, per league sources. Gronkowski has one year and $10 million left on his contract. But the two sides are, and have been talking, prior to Thursday’s draft."

Schefter then updated his report, claiming Gronk's return to NFL is subject to passing a medical: "Trade, pending physical: Patriots are trading TE Rob Gronkowski and a seventh-round pick to the Buccaneers for a fourth-round pick, source tells ESPN."

Back in March it was reported that Gronkowski had signed a bumper deal with WWE. Dave Meltzer also reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Rob was only expected to have a couple of matches, with one of these bouts taking place at SummerSlam. It would appear that proposed matchup will no longer be happening.
