Report: WWE 2K22 May Be Delayed Until Next Year

The wait for the next WWE game may be longer

WWE 2K22, the planned upcoming WWE video game title, may have had its release date pushed back, according to a report from Fightful Select.

The report cites several members of the WWE roster as claiming that 2K22 wouldn't be releasing in 2021. The impression given is that the game would figure into the marketing for WrestleMania season in 2022.

Traditionally, WWE's annual video game releases hit stores in mid to late October, or even early November.

Fightful's report adds that Take 2 Interactive (the parent company of 2K Games) is delaying multiple games. While Take 2 has not given any further context on that matter, those spoken to on the WWE end seem to believe their company's game is among the delayed releases.

WWE 2K22 would be the first "traditional" WWE video game title since 2K20, released in the autumn of 2019. 2K20 earned heavy criticism for a high number of glitches and other technical issues.

In lieu of releasing a traditional title in 2020, WWE instead released the arcade-style Battlegrounds game. The cancellation of 2K21 was announced in April 2020, with poor sales for 2K20, and the ongoing pandemic, cited as reasons.
