Report: WWE Announcers Banned From Referring To The Codebreaker
It will remain the Double Knees...
Nov 30, 2020
Following his return to WWE in 2007, Chris Jericho debuted his new finisher the Codebreaker. Jericho used the Double Knee Facebreaker alongside the Walls Of Jericho and the Lionsault for the rest of his WWE run and he has since added the Judas Effect to his arsenal in All Elite Wrestling.
Jericho still uses the Codebreaker in AEW and the move is referred to as such on commentary by the likes of Jim Ross, Excalibur and Tony Schiavone.
WWE hasn't referred to the Double Knee Facebreaker as the Codebreaker since The Demo God left the company, though, and the announcers have often called it the "Double Knees" instead. The move has often been used by Asuka and Ricochet.
Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the announcers refer to the move as the Double Knees because they are still banned from calling it the Codebreaker.
Meltzer penned: "Asuka made a hot tag and hit a codebreaker, which, by the way, is a term the announcers are banned from using."
