Report: WWE Backstage Talk Suggests Steve Austin's In-Ring Return Is A "Done Deal"

The return looks to be on

19 years on from his final WWE match, "Stone Cold' Steve Austin could be set to return to the squared circle, with a WrestleMania 38 match against Kevin Owens having been discussed within Vince McMahon's company.

A report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider also noted WWE brought up the idea of an in-ring return to Austin in late December/early January but The Texas Rattlesnake had not committed to wrestling at WrestleMania as of February 14.

In a conflicting report, though, Dave Meltzer stated on Wrestling Observer Radio that people within WWE were talking about Stone Cold vs. Owens as if the match was a "done deal."

"They have a lot of tickets left to sell and the impression I have is the match is on. That's why he started doing the promos. I know that backstage at WWE all day, that's all I kept hearing about. I heard it early in the day and I kept checking around and more people were saying they heard the same thing. I don't know that it's a done deal but people were talking like it was. The Owens promo was a dead giveaway," Meltzer said.

Kevin Owens started to insult Texas in promos last week and that continued on Monday Night Raw. WrestleMania 38 is set to take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Show Of Shows will once again be a two-night event, to be held on April 2 and April 3.
