Many people in WWE are reportedly "baffled" by Tony Khan's booking of CMLL Women's World Champion Persephone in All Elite Wrestling.
That is according to Bryan Alvarez, who said on Wrestling Observer Live:
"I have heard from many people in WWE who are just baffled at Tony's usage of Persephone. They're just like, 'What's this guy doing?' She's got so much potential. If her deal comes due, WWE are going to want her instantly. Meanwhile, all she does is show up on TV and do jobs as the CMLL Women’s Champion."
Persephone is currently signed to a dual AEW-CMLL contract and has been since the beginning of 2026. Her booking in AEW has been mixed since Forbidden Door 2025, though, and she has unsuccessfully attempted to win the TBS Championship on four occasions, including on this past Wednesday's episode of AEW Dynamite.
She was also pinned by Triangle of Madness in an AEW Collision tag team match in April, and Persephone was defeated by Hazuki in the quarter-finals of the AEW Owen Hart Foundation Women's Tournament. Across her nine matches on AEW programming, Persephone has only won three of them.
WWE have a long-standing interest in Persephone dating back to Forbidden Door 2025 when she impressed in a four-way for the AEW TBS Title that also featured Mercedes Moné, Alex Windsor, and Bozilla. It was reported in April that WWE are already talking about trying to sign Persephone when her dual contract expires later this year.
WWE have already poached La Catalina from CMLL in 2026 and she has been booked in Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide since her return to WWE in April.
