Report: WWE Held Talks With Tag Team Before They Signed With AEW

A prominent tag team held talks with WWE before signing with AEW

It’s arguably the best time in decades to find yourself a free agent in professional wrestling, with WWE and AEW looking for that next act that can help take their respective products to the next level, never mind the healthy independent scene.

AEW in particular have been very visible with their roster expansions, with seemingly each week promoting new faces as having become ‘all elite’, with the recent signing of The Kingdom from IMPACT Wrestling just another example of this.

Prior to The Kingdom signing with AEW, reports suggested that WWE were looking at Matt Taven, but a new report from Fightful Select suggests that WWE held talks with all three Kingdom members - Taven, Mike Bennett, and Maria Kanellis-Bennett - with regards to bringing the group into WWE.

The trio opted for AEW/ROH, with Fightful saying talks with WWE were informal and served more as a ‘feeling out’ process, with Triple H and Gabe Sapolsky said to have been the points of contact during such talks.

Whilst The Kingdom haven’t received the ‘All Elite’ graphic, reports have stated that three have signed long term deals with AEW/ROH.
