Mariah May is officially a WWE talent, having signed with the company on a multi-year deal. She made her debut on Tuesday night's edition of NXT.
May made an appearance as several competitors looked to insert themselves into the NXT Women's Title picture, with the former AEW Women's World Champion appearing on a balcony and announcing she had "finally arrived."
Mariah May was not acknowledged by her in-ring name on WWE NXT, nor has May mentioned her name in social media posts since her debut inside the WWE Performance Center.
Mariah May is able to retain that name in WWE as her real name is Mariah May Mead. That isn't the plan, however, and TC of WrestleVotes has reported the current plan is for Mariah May to get "a new name once it's decided upon."
Why WWE are changing May's name is unknown, but the company did modify another former AEW talent's name in Ricky Starks to Ricky Saints, reportedly because the company wanted to have a name they owned the trademark for.
Name changes have been on a case-by-case basis as other former AEW wrestlers in Jade Cargill and Rey Fenix retained their names upon debuting on the main roster. Fenix's brother Penta, though, received a shortened name from Penta El Zero Miedo.
