Report: WWE Raw Title Match Was Originally Planned For Fastlane

WWE Fastlane was originally going to have an Intercontinental Title match

The programme between Gunther and Tommaso Ciampa continued on the October 2 edition of Monday Night Raw from the SAP Center in San Jose, California.

Following hostilities in recent weeks, Ciampa challenged Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship as he became the latest talent to try and end the Imperium leader's record-breaking reign. Ciampa ultimately became the latest wrestler to fail in that quest too as he was forced to pass out following a Sleeper Hold by Gunther.

The match received a major spotlight, main eventing the October 2 episode of Raw. That wasn't the original plan, though, and Better Wrestling Experience has reported that Gunther vs. Tommaso Ciampa was originally supposed to happen at Saturday's Fastlane pay-per-view.

"Big ME tonight. It was supposed for FLane. Should happen tonight. Championship match btw," BWE tweeted.

Following the main event, Imperium proceeded to attack Tommaso Ciampa which led to the return of Johnny Gargano as #DIY reformed after months of anticipation. Gargano had been off WWE TV since May and he had only been booked on house shows sporadically in squash match losses to Omos.
