Report: WWE's Plans For The Revival In 2020 Revealed

Vince was planning to get out the shovel...

The Revival and WWE's relationship has become somewhat fractured in recent months. Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder have repeatedly rejected new contracts from the company which would have seen them earn close to $1 million a year each, and instead have requested their releases on more than one occasion.

The Top Guys have since been sent home by WWE as they were originally scheduled to be part of the SmackDown Elimination Chamber match, but were replaced by Lucha House Party. The pair will seemingly end their run in the company on the sidelines with "extremely scaled back" pay.

This wasn't WWE's original plan, however, as Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the company seemingly wanted to bury the former SmackDown Tag Team Champions on their way out the door. After being used as glorified jobbers to end 2019, Dawson and Wilder were booked to return to SmackDown as a comedy act that would have mimicked tag teams of the past.

This wouldn't have been the first time WWE saddled a talent with this gimmick. For a couple of months in 2017, Dolph Ziggler would make his way to the ring and mimic the entrances of WWE legends like Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and The Ultimate Warrior.

For the avoidance of doubt, Meltzer penned: "It's expected The Revival is done and that they aren't going to do a gimmick where they would be doing a comedy act mimicking tag teams of the past which was seemingly meant to bury them."
