Report: WWE's Kevin Dunn Didn't "Get" Billie Kay

The WWE executive wasn't a fan

WWE released several Superstars last week, including Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, Samoa Joe and Mickie James. Budget cuts were cited as the reason for the releases and the firings came exactly one year after Black Wednesday.

According to Fightful Select, many backstage in WWE were surprised at Billie Kay's release, particularly as she had competed in the Tag Team Turmoil match at WrestleMania 37 only a few days beforehand. Kay and her former tag team partner Peyton Royce were also said to be "loved" in the WWE locker room.

Kay didn't receive as much love outside of the locker room, though. WWE Executive Kevin Dunn reportedly didn't "get" the former Women's Tag Team Champion and made it known that he thought she had a ceiling in the company. If Dunn's opinion contributed to Kay being let go is unknown, however.

With her release, Kay has a 90-day non-compete clause, meaning she won't be able to sign anywhere until July 14. Some talent have reportedly asked or are planning to ask WWE to waive the clause, but if Kay is one of them is also unknown.
