Since being released by WWE in 2016, Hornswoggle has sporadically appeared on WWE TV over the years at big events. He chased Zelina Vega around the ring at Royal Rumble 2019 and he also competed in the 50-man Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia back in 2018.

WWE had plans to do more with Hornswoggle in Saudi Arabia, though. A report from Fightful Select noted WWE planned to have Swoggle compete in a match at one of the Saudi shows. The plans were so far along that Robbie "The Giant" Araujo was actually flown over to the Middle East, but WWE ultimately opted to scrap the idea for an unknown reason.

Araujo has been competing on the independent scene since 2007. He previously wrestled in Micro Championship Wrestling and he also appeared on WWE TV as JB-Elf for the WeeLC match between Hornswoggle and El Torito at Extreme Rules 2014.

WWE hasn't held a show in Saudi Arabia since February 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but a return to the Middle East in 2021 is "very much on the table" according to recent reports.
