Report: WWE Were Still Confident About Signing Jay White Last Week

Jay White debuted for AEW amidst strong links to WWE

After months of rumour and speculation, Jay White has signed with All Elite Wrestling, with ‘Switchblade’ returning to the company on the April 5 edition of AEW Dynamite.

Since leaving New Japan in February, White's next move was the subject of much debate, with both AEW and WWE said to have been heavily interested in the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. Indeed, it seemed that White was more likely destined for WWE before becoming ‘All Elite’, with countless fans convinced that White would debut on the post-WrestleMania edition of Raw.

Many see AEW’s gain as a major loss for WWE, and Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp reported on Twitter that some in WWE were confident of signing White up until this last week, with Grapsody's Will Washington also reporting that WWE’s interest was strong, noting that many in the company were confident of a deal being struck. As of the time of writing, there is no word of when White signed his AEW deal.

White’s name was linked with WWE before his NJPW departure, with the rumour mill going into overdrive ahead of the Royal Rumble, after White dropped the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship to Kazuchika Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4.
