Report: WWE Got 'The Reaction They Wanted' From Raw After WrestleMania 39

WWE got what they wanted from the Raw after WrestleMania

Outside of the decision to have Roman Reigns defeat Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 39, the Showcase of the Immortals was mostly praised by fans. WWE didn't maintain that goodwill for very long, though, as the company followed up on WrestleMania 39 with what has been voted as one of the worst episodes of Monday Night Raw in the history of the series on April 3.

The show reportedly underwent last-minute rewrites due to interference from Vince McMahon, who re-established himself as the head of WWE creative, and very little happened on the show beyond a main event angle that saw Brock Lesnar turn heel on Cody Rhodes.

The Raw after WrestleMania 39 has generated plenty of discussion, most of it negative, but that is something that WWE will only see as a positive, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, who noted the reaction is exactly what the company wanted.

"I promise you, the fact there has been so much discussion they will only see as a positive. If there was no discussion, they'd be shaking their heads thinking what went wrong. If it was a misfire, history will tell us, but right now the reaction is what they wanted," Meltzer tweeted.

After Vince McMahon ran the Raw after WrestleMania 39 taping, him potentially travelling to Portland for SmackDown is seen as a key moment to determine how involved with creative the WWE Executive Chairman plans to be going forward.
