Revealed: Why WWE Didn't Keep Randy Orton's Return At Survivor Series A Surprise

Why didn't WWE keep Randy Orton's return a secret?

In the main event segment of Monday Night Raw this week, it was (not so subtly) revealed to fans by Cody Rhodes that Randy Orton was joining his WarGames team for their battle with the Judgment Day at Survivor Series. This was later confirmed by WWE across their social media platforms, with Orton’s comeback being hyped up.

Given that Orton had been out of action for well over a year, it poses the question of why the company didn’t keep it as a surprise for the weekend, in what would have been sure to be a big moment. On Fightful Select, it has been revealed that the promotion did this to ensure that both the Chicago fans in the arena at Survivor Series and those at home didn’t assume the mystery partner was CM Punk.

There have been a lot of rumours surrounding the status of CM Punk, who is supposedly wanting to join WWE, though Fightful have stated that WWE’s stance of not signing Punk right now has not changed.

Survivor Series will emanate from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday, November 25.
