Rey Mysterio Considered Retirement In 2019, Dominik Convinced Him To Continue

Rey Mysterio Reveals That Dominik Talked Him Out Of Retirement In 2019

The future of Rey Mysterio has been a much discussed topic recently, with some fans believing that his WrestleMania 39 feud with his son Dominik coupled with his Hall of Fame induction was a sign of his career coming to an end. Mysterio’s career looks to be continuing despite all of that, but it could actually have ended four years ago.

During his appearance on the After The Bell podcast with Corey Graves, Mysterio discussed how he nearly retired all the way back in 2019, but he was convinced out of doing so by his son;

“I mean at one point when I first came back [to WWE], I was actually feuding with Samoa Joe and I remember that’s when I really wanted to hang up the mask and retire. As weird as it sounds, Dominik convinced me not to and told me to stay. I just felt like I was falling behind with all this young talent opening up a path… but I stayed and I committed to putting in the work and it’s been incredible ever since. Yeah, I was really having doubts and I was like ‘Maybe it is time to step back and let this new generation come in and do their thing.’ But I think shortly after, I went to get some Stem Cells and I came back and I was ready to go.”

Mysterio continued on wrestling in WWE, and despite having some injuries here and there, he has been as good as ever.
