One of the biggest criticisms of Tony Khan in 2022 is his mishandling of Andrade El Idolo, with the former NXT Champion booked sparingly by AEW - when booked at all.
Andrade was suspended by the company for his part in a backstage skirmish with Sammy Guevara, amidst rumours that El Idolo was looking to return to WWE, and recently revealed that he has been out of action with a pec tear.
Despite this, you can’t argue that Andrade hasn’t been used to his full potential, and his father-in-law Ric Flair agrees, telling Conrad Thompson on the To Be The Man podcast:
“I like the stuff with Matt Hardy, but I don’t think that they use him properly, myself, but I’m going to be, obviously, biased. I think he’s a much better singles performer than he is in tag matches. It’s to be determined. I know that’s a very sensitive tear. It was a bad tear, so he’s going to be out for a while with it,” said Flair.
Andrade has his first AEW match in July 2021, and since then has only wrestled a further 26 times for the company, with his last match coming at All Out 2022 in September.
