Rob Van Dam Hoping For John Cena Rematch As Part Of 2025 WWE Retirement Tour

RVD believes he could have another great match with his former rival.

Add Rob Van Dam to a growing list that includes CM Punk and Matt Cardona

Speaking on a recent edition of his 1 Of A Kind With RVD podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer expressed his desire to go one more round with John Cena before the 16-time world champion retires in 2025.

"I Hope they bring me in for a rematch with Cena. That would be super cool. I don't know if they know, but I know I could have that same match, absolutely," he said.

The match Van Dam is referring to is the one he had with Cena in the main event of ECW One Night Stand 2006. In it, The Whole F'N Show beat Cena to win the WWE Title for the first and only time. The match was noted for its intense crowd heat as much as the in-ring action, with Cena facing a very hostile reception in the Hammerstein Ballroom.

Elaborating on what it was like working with Cena on that particular occasion, Van Dam added:

"He was able to pull the strings with the crowd and he knew going out there that he was going to be up against a crowd that that hated him. A really vocal, physical, most opinionated crowd ever, but he was ready for it, and he handled it great, and I enjoyed working with him. And also he was very, very snug".

Though the 53-year-old has continued to make occasional appearances for WWE, he hasn't wrestled a WWE match since 2014. His most recent televised matches have been in an AEW ring, with the most recent one taking place on April 20.
