According to Rob Van Dam, the investigation to discover Sabu's cause of death has been delayed. The delay, according to RVD, is because Sabu was never officially divorced from Hitomi Brunk and she wants nothing to do with the situation.

"I can tell you right now, and this is me, I talk to Paulina (Sabu's sister) several times a day, I talked to the coroner investigator yesterday. They are not and have not released the cause of death yet. It's 100 per cent fact, I'm 100 per cent certain. And check this out, guess who's got the authority to make decisions? [Hitomi]. In Japan, she wants nothing to do with him or that life anymore," Rob Van Dam said on his 1 of a Kind tribute episode to Sabu with Taz.

"They never got the official divorce so we need her signature for several things. I don't want to get too personal on what the hold-up is but it's everything and part of that is the cause of death. I have reached her through a mutual friend and she doesn't want nothing to do with this. And trying to get her to understand that in the meantime without her signature everything is held up."

It was announced on Sunday, May 11 that Sabu had passed away at 60-years-old, only weeks after his retirement match over WrestleMania 41 weekend.

Van Dam also revealed that Sabu was suffering from a stomach issue but he didn't visit a doctor as he was scared to find out what the issue was.

"He had some signs, it wasn't something like he one time f*cked up or mixed two wrong things or somebody gave him - he had something going on with him. I remember him telling me that he had something in his stomach that sounded bad. And I was like, 'Dude you should get that checked out.' And he gave the answer, 'No, I'd rather not know. I'm scared to find out,'" Van Dam added.
