Robert Roode: Paul Heyman Pitched Dolph Ziggler Tag Team Idea In WWE
The duo are now Smackdown Tag Team Champions
Robert Roode has revealed it was former Raw executive producer Paul Heyman who pitched him teaming with Dolph Ziggler in WWE.
Roode is currently one half of the Smackdown Tag Team Champions, alongside Ziggler, and the former NXT champion says the idea for the two to team together came from Heyman.
The duo were both without much to do on Raw in August 2019 but quickly became Raw Tag Team Champions, defeating Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman at Clash Of Champions, just weeks after first teaming together.
Speaking to Daily DDT, Roode said: "It was Paul Heyman’s idea, basically. I wasn’t doing a lot at the time and Dolph’s always been in and out [of storylines], for whatever reason. He’ll be busy one month and the next month you don’t see him
"We were showing up to the TV and we weren’t doing a lot of stuff and one day we got to TV and Paul pulled us over and said, ‘I have this idea. I want to pitch it.’
"We have that chemistry together. To be honest, it was kind of odd and cool at the same time because when I got called up from NXT, my very first program was against Dolph. Even as opponents, we had really good chemistry and we had some really good matches.
"That’s where it all started, and when we got together as a team, that chemistry reignited and we’ve had a lot of success."
