The IWGP World Heavyweight Championship is the top men’s singles prize in all of Japan, with the likes of Kazuchika Okada, Will Ospreay, and Shingo Takagi having held the gold.

The title - and it’s predecessor the IWGP Heavyweight Championship - has been held by some of the greatest names in wrestling history, and NJPW’s Rocky Romero revealed on Wrestling Observer Live that there’s one name above all others that he wants to see have a run with the strap:

“(Tomohiro) Ishii is probably the greatest professional wrestler to never win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. But, God I would love to see him get a chance one day to win that and I feel like that would be the cherry on top to what an amazing career and what an amazing talent and standout he is,” said Romero.

Primarily known for his multiple runs with the NEVER Openweight Championship, ‘The Stone Pitbull’ is one of the most beloved stars in all of New Japan, and is also a one-time former ROH World Television Champion.
