Tony Khan has announced another big boost to the ROH women’s division, unveiling plans to crown an inaugural ROH Pure Women’s Champion, adding to the mix after previously introducing a ROH Women’s World Television Championship last year.

After the AEW Collision taping and prior to the ROH taping on Saturday April 12, Khan came out to the live crowd to reveal that a women’s version of the Pure Title was in the works, and that at the upcoming ROH Supercard Of Honor PPV on May 2 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, the tournament to crown a first ever women’s Pure Champion would begin. There were no details on how many wrestlers would be in the tournament or when it would conclude.

The women’s Pure Championship will be contested under Pure rules, like with the men’s division. Wrestlers receive three rope breaks per match, there are restrictions on closed fists, there is no interference, and judges determine a winner if the match ends in a draw. Since Khan took over ROH, the men’s Pure Title has been held by Wheeler Yuta, Daniel Garcia, Katsuyori Shibata and Lee Moriarty.
