Roman Reigns' Planned WWE WrestleMania 42 Opponent Revealed

Roman Reigns became a two-time Royal Rumble winner on Saturday, January 31 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, having won the men's Royal Rumble match to close out the 2026 pay-per-view. Reigns last eliminated Gunther to punch his ticket to WrestleMania 42.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, the current plan is for Roman Reigns to face CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42. This will be the first singles match between Reigns and Punk since January 2014, although they did face off in a Triple Threat that also included Seth Rollins in the main event of WrestleMania 41 night 1.

The Undisputed WWE Championship match, meanwhile, is scheduled to be Drew McIntyre vs. Cody Rhodes, but Jacob Fatu could be added to the WWE Title match to make it a three-way.

The Undisputed WWE Championship match was originally planned to be Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns for the third time in four years, but WWE scrapped those plans after setting up the contest at Survivor Series.

WWE WrestleMania 42 will be held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19.
