Santana & Ortiz Officially No Longer A Tag Team

Santana reveals that he is now a singles wrestler

Whilst the issues between Santana & Ortiz have been public knowledge for quite some time, there was some belief that the pair would eventually overcome their differences and realign as a duo following Santana’s return from injury.

The pair did recently make a comeback together on AEW programming, teaming up with Blackpool Combat Club for their Stadium Stampede match at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium. They did perform some tandem moves, though their interactions seemed very cold and minimal. On last night’s AEW Rampage, it very much seems as though this brief reunion was just that - brief.

The newly christened “Mike Santana” was given some time in a backstage promo to explain that he was now going out on his own. He had this to say;

"There comes a time in everyone’s life where you reach a fork in the road. When you get there, there’s decisions that need to me made in order to proceed in the right direction. Some roads are easy and lead to mediocrity and comfortability. Some roads come with new challenges and force you to grow. If there’s one thing I’ve learned through this process, it’s that you can’t depend on anyone to have the same passion or drive. Or hell, to even have your back the same way that you would. With that being said, the world has been asking all these questions. Now, the world is about to get all the answers. The road I’ve chosen to take is one that must be taken on my own. No crutch, no crew. All I’ve done my entire life is bet on myself.”

He went on to say he is in AEW to make money and piss people off. It certainly looks as though he is set to make a statement.
