The wrestling world is still processing WWE’s latest round of talent releases, with talents from RAW, SmackDown, and NXT cut from the WWE roster yesterday.

One of the names cut from WWE was that of Harry ‘DH’ Smith, the former WWE Tag Team Champion who was re-hired by WWE earlier this year.

WWE did nothing with Smith during his time back with the company, save for one solitary dark match on SmackDown in July. Rumours swirled that Smith was earmarked for a big push on NXT UK, and now The Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer has shed some more light on WWE’s scrapped plans for Smith:

“In the case of Smith, one of the ideas for him was to be one of the biggest stars for the NXT U.K. brand, since his father was so popular in the U.K. in the 90s. But when he was signed, travel wasn’t opened up and the decision was made for him to instead be on the main roster. Then they did nothing with him.”

Outside of WWE, Smith is best known for his run in New Japan as Davey Boy Smith Jr., where he and Lance Archer teamed as the Killer Elite Squad as part of Suzuki-gun, where the pair reigned as IWGP Tag Team Champions on three occasions.
