Sami Zayn ultimately wasn't involved at SummerSlam 2019, but The Great Liberator has revealed on Twitter that he actually pitched to wrestle Sean Waltman at the event.

"I asked if I could wrestle him at Summerslam two years ago. @TheRealXPac, that is. Not the other guy," Zayn wrote.

While the match didn't take place in 2019, Waltman responded to Zayn and admitted he'd be open to facing him for the first time since 2011 at SummerSlam 2022.

Waltman tweeted: "I had a few health/injury issues that needed addressing at that time. Now that I've taken care of them, there's always next #SummerSlam...if that's something people want to see. #wwe." He then added: "*I meant next year's #SummerSlam."

If Waltman was to face Zayn next year, it would be his first match since April 2019. The two-time WWE Hall Of Famer had a long battle with Hepatitis C, but he's now cured of the virus. He also suffered a torn ACL and meniscus back in 2007 and recently underwent surgery to repair the injury. He is expected to be ready for an in-ring return around January 2022.
