Seth Rollins has walked out of WWE WrestleMania 41 night one at the side of Paul Heyman, after aligning with the ‘Wiseman’ to defeat Roman Reigns and CM Punk.
With over a decade’s worth of animosity between Rollins, Reigns, and Punk, tensions were certainly high heading into this one, never mind the X factor at ringside that was Paul Heyman, with the ECW icon in the corner of ‘best friend’ CM Punk rather than his ‘Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns.
Punk was buoyant heading into the bout, not only with Heyman once again by his side, but with Living Colour playing him to the ring as headed for his first ever WrestleMania main event. Reigns on the other hand looked a little dejected, with Heyman watching on as Reigns solemnly placed the ula fala in the corner of the ring.
It was the ‘OTC’ who started strongest, taking control of the bout from the bell as the fight spilled all over ringside, triple threat rules meaning no DQ or count outs. Punk and Rollins soon split off and fought their way through the crowd, utilising an assortment of plunder until they were both cut down by a flying Reigns coming over the barricade.
All three men were desperate to find an opening, Rollins coming close to a win after countering a Reigns spear into a Pedigree then following up with a Curbstomp for a very near fall. Punk also came close to winning after a GTS to Reigns, the ‘Tribal Chief’ again kicking out at two. Rollins tried to get Reigns on his side to take Punk out once and for all, but the SHIELD reunion was not to be as Roman slugged Rollins, powerbombed Punk through one announce table, then Rollins through another, but still couldn’t put Seth away after getting a two off of a spear back in the ring.
The three remained evenly matched as the bout ticked on, no-one able to get an opening in the match. With all three down after exchanging finishers, a conflicted Paul Heyman grabbed a steel chair and handed it to Punk before low blowing the ‘Second City Saint’. Heyman then berated Punk for making him choose before handing the chair to Reigns on bended knee. Roman unloaded on Punk with the chair, but as he went to smash Rollins with the chair as payback for the Shield’s breakup, Heyman lowblowed Reigns then handed the chair to Rollins and watched as Seth smashed Roman with the chair, then hit the stomp for the win.
Heyman then raised Rollins’ hand in the ring as the crowd sang his theme, before the two made their exit side by side.
