Shane McMahon Issues Statement On Tony Khan Meeting

Shane McMahon addresses recent meeting with AEW's Tony Khan

Shane McMahon has addressed his recent meeting with AEW CEO Tony Khan, revealing what they talked about within a statement to Bully Ray on Busted Open After Dark

"Tony and I were connected through a mutual friend and we had a great meeting. We talked about many things, but mostly about our shared love for the business and the rewards and challenges of working with family. I congratulated him on the five-year anniversary of AEW and look forward to see how he evolves the business moving forward," McMahon stated.

Tony Khan and Shane McMahon met on Monday, July 29 at a private airport in Arlington, Texas, with reports noting they discussed "possibilities moving forward." Khan had reportedly been "very open" about using Shane in AEW over the past several weeks while backstage at All Elite Wrestling's TV tapings.

It emerged earlier this Summer that Shane McMahon had been in contact with people who work for AEW about possibly making an appearance in the promotion. Tony Khan soon after publicly said that Shane was "always welcome" in AEW and McMahon then bumped into Mercedes Moné in a chance meeting at a New York airport following AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.

According to reports, no one within WWE is surprised by Shane McMahon meeting with Tony Khan. McMahon is no longer under contract with WWE and his deal expired at some point after he tore his quad at WrestleMania 39.
