Shelton Benjamin Wants WWE Match Against Brock Lesnar

The amateur standouts have never had a televised singles match in WWE

Speaking with Wrestling Inc. Managing Editor Nick Hausman, Shelton Benjamin recently expressed his desire to have a match with Brock Lesnar.

"Of course, I want a shot, absolutely. But I think for me it is a little different because I have a very long history with Brock that proceeds WWE. So, I know what I can do against him"

Shelton was actually one of Brock's coaches at the University of Minnesota and helped The Beast Incarnate on his way to winning the NCAA Division 1 Heavyweight Title in 2000.

Benjamin, a standout amateur wrestler in his own right, teamed with Lesnar in WWE developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling between 2000 and 2002 as the Minnesota Stretching Crew.

The duo won the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship on three occasions while posted in Louisville, Kentucky.

The two men met many times in multi-man match scenarios when both were members of the SmackDown brand in 2003, but have never had a singles match on WWE television (they did have a couple on non-televised house shows).

The last time Benjamin and Lesnar faced off in the ring was in the 2020 Royal Rumble match, where Brock eliminated Shelton.
