The main event of the January 4 Wrestle Kingdom 16 show has been set.

Following their wins at Power Struggle, Kazuchika Okada will challenge Shingo Takagi for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship inside the Tokyo Dome on January 4, 2022.

Okada earned the title shot by winning G1 Climax 31 and he successfully defended his Right To Challenge Contract at Power Struggle on Saturday, November 6 against Tama Tonga.

Instead of a briefcase, though, Okada has revived the IWGP Heavyweight Title as a symbol of his G1 win and The Rainmaker is instead looking to prove which champion is better on January 4 as opposed to just challenging for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

Okada and Shingo have squared off twice in 2021, with Takagi coming out on top on both occasions, including a win over Okada at Dominion to capture the vacant world heavyweight title.

Wrestle Kingdom 16 will be a three-day event for the first time in New Japan Pro-Wrestling history, with shows on January 4 and January 5 from the Tokyo Dome and a January 8 event from the Yokohama Dome.
