Shotzi Suffers Serious Injury In 'Freak Accident' At WWE NXT Taping

Shotzi injured in 'freak accident' at WWE NXT taping

Shotzi might be set for a stint on the shelf after suffering a freak injury during Tuesday night's tapings of WWE NXT.

After a live episode of the Tuesday night show, WWE taped the February 20 edition of NXT that featured a main event of Lyra Valkyria vs. Shotzi for the NXT Women's Championship. The match had been set up at an NXT house show over the weekend.

Fightful Select has reported that disaster struck only a few minutes into the match as Shotzi hit her knee against the side of the ring while falling to the outside. Shotzi was unable to continue the match and she was forced to hop to the back with assistance from WWE's medical team. Shotzi was unable to put any weight on her injured leg and she was said to be in a large amount of pain.

Fightful noted that one source said the injury was serious. There was no heat on Shotzi or Valkyria as the incident was considered "a freak accident."

Following the incident, NXT General Manager Ava announced Shotzi would be unable to continue and changed the match to an open challenge. This led to an impromptu title match between Lyra Valkyria and Lash Legend with the champion retaining after a brief beatdown from Legend.

Valkyria, Lash Legend, and Ava were all praised for being able to adapt to a difficult situation, according to Fightful.
