After defeating Charlotte Flair at Evolution in a Last Woman Standing match, Becky Lynch started calling herself The Man. The Irish Lass Kicker cemented herself as one of the top stars in WWE soon after and reigned as Raw Women's Champion until she announced she was pregnant in May 2020.

Stephanie McMahon revealed during a recent interview with Digital Spy some female WWE Superstars were "very against" Lynch calling herself The Man and questioned why she couldn't be The Woman instead.

McMahon said: "(The Man) really was her idea. It's funny because some women were very against it like, 'Why do you have to call yourself The Man? Why can't you be The Woman.'

"But she just didn't take it, you know, too literally. The whole point was to turn that nomenclature on its ear, right, because everyone says, 'Oh the biggest, the most successful person in the room is The Man.' Well, why can't The Man be a woman?"

Lynch previously addressed why she called herself The Man at CES 2020.

She said: "In my sport, in every sport, the person, the top dog, is usually referred to as The Man and I can't change the English language to mean that the top person is The Woman, so I said, 'Alright, well I'm the top person in WWE right now, I'm going to start calling myself The Man.' And for me, that wasn't a way to negate female empowerment, that was a way to say, 'No, sorry guys, I'm the top dog. The Man. I'm taking your name and your spot.'"
