Swerve Strickland has responded to critics of his recent match at AEW All Out on social media. The former AEW World Champion faced 'Hangman' Adam Page in an Unsanctioned Lights Out Steel Cage Match, the main event of last Saturday's pay-per-view.
The match was very violent in tone, and featured several spots that one wouldn't expect to regularly see from a major modern American wrestling promotion. These included both men slamming one another onto a cinderblock, Page driving a syringe through Strickland's cheek, and Swerve appearing to stab his opponent with a sharpened wooden spike.
Many have applauded the match's boundary-pushing nature - especially given the hateful feud between its two competitors - but it has also attracted criticism. In response to the latter, Strickland tweeted: "(UN-SANC-TIONED.) What did you expect? Go where others won't go."
Hangman was ultimately the winner of the match after breaking a chair over Swerve's head. It was his first victory over Strickland after losing to him twice towards the end of 2023. This year, the pair have gone to a time-limit draw and both unsuccessfully taken part in a triple threat match against then-AEW World Champion Samoa Joe.
